Joint research to address Mediterranean' water, agriculture and food security challenges
The mission of the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area, PRIMA, is ‘to achieve, support and promote integration, alignment and joint implementation of national R&I programmes under a common research and innovation strategy to address the diverse challenges in water scarcity, agriculture, food security’. The partnership consists of European, Northern African and Western Asian (Middle Eastern) countries, that (often) share similar challenges due to climate change, over-exploitation of already limited natural resources such as water, changes in peoples’ lifestyle behavior and a low profitability of smallholders.
The increased complexity and multidimensionality of these social, economic and environmental challenges, call for transnational research efforts and resources. One of the yearly activities of PRIMA are its competitive calls, and the ones for 2020 are open. The Section 1 Calls focus on Water Management, the Agro-Food Value chain, Farming Systems and the Water-Ecosystem-Food Nexus. The total indicative allocated budget is EUR 33 million. Deadline for pre-proposal submission is April 1st, for full proposal September 2nd. The Section 2 Multi-topic Call has an indicative allocated budget of EUR 38 million. Deadline for pre-proposal submission is April 15th, for full proposal submission September 16th. Participants from countries not participating in PRIMA may join a research consortium with their own funds.
